MCCAIN CAMPAIGN TO OBAMA: 30 DAYS OF NEGATIVE HELL... does this mean race?

It will all be on the table now. We’re thirty days out from the election. Michigan has signaled to the GOP that they are going Blue and the McCain Campaign packed up their tents. Pennsylvania is leaning and organized labor is going the way of the builders of cars. So, don’t be surprised if McCain pulls out of the Keystone State or significantly downgrades its operations there. But… it’s all on the table now.

What does that actually mean? What is all on the table? In a Presidential campaign it means one or both candidates are ready to go bare knuckle to the end. Negative. Anything goes. Yes, even race. It won’t be out in the open. It won’t be blatant. But it will be enough for one to give pause and question whether they should question or if that question will only make it worse. I have always looked upon this moment in America as if it were a person trying to shake old habits in order to move forward. That person, America, knows that it has to make a tough decision as we all have had at one time in our lives. When we come to a tough decision we look at the choices we’ve made in the past and then judge whether we should risk new choices for the future. It makes us jittery, unsure.  We know our past choices, as comfortable and as wrong as they may be, are attractive because of familiarity. It takes courage and just enough life crisis to be tempted to let go of the security of the past and look elsewhere for answers. We vacillate like an old fan between the breeze of change and the uncertainty of possible outcomes of our new decisions and choices. After careful consideration of the old we become vexed with the knowledge that we can’t go back. For our own good we can’t go back. We look for reasons we can cling to, no matter how thin, that allow us not to look at the old choices as backward thinking; such as where we are in the current United States Presidential election cycle.

America is now that person facing a life decision; questioning whether she should look back in search of comfort, no matter how arcane the justification now may be.

This election is now turning to the desperate moments of 30 days out. It will be a bare knuckle fight. Things will be said. Falsehoods will be told. When it’s all said and done the question is, will the body politic of America be the person that reaches for its future or retreats to its past.
